Lynne Silver's Bio
Becoming an artist has been one of the great joys of my life. Often when I visit our studio at Art on 12th, I reminisce about the many Saturdays Julia Dean and I would wander aimlessly around Lynchburg dreaming of what it would be like to have an art studio where we could paint and just “hang out”. We rode by big beautiful houses and downtown buildings, voicing our thoughts of, “Wow, wouldn’t that make a great studio?” or “I can see us having wine or coffee while painting there!”. It seemed an imaginary adventure at the time. It brought us great joy and entertainment just to have the dream. Julia had painted and actually shown and sold her art work. I had dabbled in “this and that” enough to know I had talent but, mostly, that I thoroughly enjoyed it. For years, I longed to “just do it” and become an artist.
Fast forward many years later. Quite by accident, or maybe not, Julia and I have realized our “dream”; we share a studio together in a beautiful building downtown. Working full-time as an Executive Director of a local non-profit, I struggle to have the time to visit the studio or immerse myself in the absolute joy of painting. And, I have only had time to pursue watercolor, despite my interest in oils and acrylics. I am truly an “Artist in Development”.
In life, I appreciate the miracle of the colors and shapes in a bloom, the wonder of God’s luscious landscapes, the unique beauty in a face, the way light illuminates objects and amplifies their tones and silhouettes, and the emotions that can be captured in the most innocent of moments. I hope my style continues to evolve, allowing me to communicate what I see in more loose and translucent ways. But even in the midst of that process, I still enjoy a style that is uniquely my own. When my artistic fires burn, I find a painting is not complete unless there is an animal or a human depicted. I strive to capture the message found in an expression and the spirit hidden in the eyes of my subjects.
There are a number of my paintings posted for viewing. Many works are not for sale as they are promised to someone or are my own “treasures”. I do have a few paintings listed for sale. As I consider myself an “Artist in Development”, knowing you may enjoy viewing my work is the most valuable outcome of sharing it. Enjoy the selected paintings and feel free to share your thoughts with me.
