Cheryl Hawkins' Bio
I came to the Art Box studio #5 from Riverviews where I had a shared studio and was a founding member of the Riverview Art Co-op. I received a BS in Art Education at Radford in 1970.
After the mid 80s I studied with Carol Barns, Alex Powers, Gerald Brommer, Steven Quillar, Ron Boehmer, and Vera Dickerson. My mother gave me oil paints when I was 12. Later I studied watercolor with Karen Bowen and then went on to study acrylic. Loved being introduced to assemblages by Nancy Stark.
I was a volunteer at the Maier Museum thanks to my art classes at Mount Vernon High School where I learned to talk about paintings. I taught or volunteered in several of the areas schools ( Campbell County), recreation centers or art centers.
I have exhibited through out Lynchburg and surrounding areas, Lynchburg Art Center, Craddock-Terry Art Gallery and the Lynchburg Art Club to name a few. Been in several juried shows: Danville Art Show, the Mennonite Retirement Community and the Lynchburg Art Academy to name a few. I have picked up a few awards along the way: the Bert and Helene Schewel award, the Campbell County Art Show and Danville Art Show.
